Option 3:  Expanded Individual Assessment (Ages 10 – Adult)

This is the most comprehensive of all the Assessment options, covering not just five but all seven of Gardner’s original intelligences (including Bodily-Kinesthetic and Musical).  It also looks at the analytical and creative abilities described in Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory.  After each problem set associated with the Assessment, we interview you about your thinking process.  We also videotape all activities so that they can be further analyzed later.  This intensive Assessment requires between 8 and 10 hours and is best accomplished over a 2 or 3-day period.  As with the Standard Individual Assessment, a Strength Profile is included, explaining the Assessment’s results, along with a personalized consultation further explaining how the identified strengths can be best applied and developed.

     In Tucson:  $700 per individual

Optional components:

    1) A personal interview to gather information about the individual’s interests, learning experiences, and perception of his or her strengths.  This interview is an excellent way of helping a student and parents integrate the Assessment results into the everyday learning environment and is equally helpful to adults, in the development of career or educational goals. ($60 per individual)

   2) Observations of the individual in his/her educational or work setting.  This option, coupled with the Assessment, is particularly useful and effective for a child who is struggling in the regular classroom or for an adult looking for ways to be more productive and creative.  The DISCOVER Observer can make many suggestions for improving both learning environment and learning style…or work environment.  Availability of this option is conditional upon any necessary permission for such an observation and upon schedule coordination between the Observer and the class time or work schedule.  Advance preparations are necessary. ($150 per student)

   3) A conference with the individual’s teacher(s) or supervisor, to assist in creating a better learning/work environment.  In this option, the DISCOVER staff member goes with you (or parents) to meet with teacher(s)/supervisor and act as an advocate.  Teachers/supervisors may not know how to use or interpret the Assessment results and may be unfamiliar with the many effective learning and creativity techniques advocated by DISCOVER.  With this option, you can help the teacher learn how to personalize the classroom and teach your child from the perspective of his or her strengths.  An adult can use the discussion as a springboard for proposed changes or new ideas to try.  Availability of this option is conditional upon the obtaining permission for the interview and upon schedule coordination between the Observer and the teacher(s)/supervisor.  Advance preparations are necessary. ($100 per student)

On-site, in you community:  $1,000 per individual plus travel expenses for the DISCOVER Observer.  Travel expenses are not charged if the Assessment is coordinated with a time when a DISCOVER Observer will be in the area already, conducting services for a local school or organization…or if a trained DISCOVER Observer is based in your immediate area.  Otherwise sometimes regional DISCOVER Observers are available, resulting in much reduced travel expenses.  Travel expenses can be reduced, also, if you partner with other parents to have additional children assessed on consecutive days.  The same optional components specified above are available on-site, if scheduling details are worked out sufficiently in advance.

International:  Fees at locations outside of the continental U.S. will vary, depending on the distance and circumstances.  Please contact the DISCOVER office for a customized rate plan.
